The images in the slideshow above are a result of the work on the A Gift For The Village project. While in Nepal, Austin discovered that two bodies of work were actually emerging from the journey – one centering on the A Gift For The Village painting and expedition, and another from the culture and people she met there.
The experience of traveling in Nepal was intense and life altering. With these images Austin hopes to transfer that experience to anyone who sees them, bringing the gift of insight into different people, culture, places, and the ties that connect us all. |

In 2007 a team of westerners journeyed from Virginia in the United States to a little village called Jomsom in Nepal. This team came bearing a gift of an enormous painting called a Thangka. Though the paining represents one man, Amchi Tsampa Ngawang, it is A Gift For The Village – a gift for all those who live in the village and a gift to all those who travel to see it. The slideshow is created from the still images from that journey, and the video documentary is anticipated in the summer of 2010.
